Congress pioneer Rahul Gandhi today asserted India is “no more” a democratic country, citing media gives an account of Swedish Institute’s majority rule government report that minimized India.

“India is not, at this point a democratic country,” he said on Twitter, labelling a news report referring to Sweden’s V-Dem Institute’s majority rules system report that has downsized India from “world’s biggest popular government” to “appointive majority rule government”.

This comes after another worldwide report by US government-subsidized NGO Freedom House minimized India’s status from “free” to “somewhat free” and asserted that “political rights and common freedoms have disintegrated in India since Narendra Modi became executive in 2014”.

The government has unequivocally disproved the Freedom House report and called it “deceiving, erroneous and lost” while affirming that the country has grounded democratic practices.

Rahul Gandhi has been assaulting the government over the right to speak freely of discourse and articulation.
